Sterling Arrow is proud to be recruiting on behalf of our client – a highly respected, award-winning architectural practice based in Chelmsford, renowned for delivering large-scale, design-led residential and mixed-use developments.

As the practice continues to grow and expand its services into landscape and urban design, they are now seeking a talented Senior Urban/Master planner to join their collaborative team.

The Role: You will support the senior leadership team on a range of strategic and design-focused planning projects, taking a lead role in the development of urban design strategies and masterplans for major housebuilders, developers, and local authorities. Projects will span early concept through to planning and delivery stages, offering a wide scope for creativity and technical input.

Qualifications

  • A qualified Urban Designer, Architect or Planner with a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in master planning
  • Specialising in residential layouts with low-rise housing experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of planning policy, design principles, and placemaking

Role Within Practice

  • Lead and support the preparation of masterplans, frameworks, and design codes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, landscape-led solutions
  • Present ideas clearly through diagrams, reports, and visual material
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement and public consultation exercises
  • Assist with the delivery of planning documents for outline and detailed applications
